Smart Cards typically means High-Frequency RFID cards that use Near-Field Communication to transmit data. NFC technologies, operating at 13.56 MHz. Some smart cards have additional tiny lithium batteries within them for active powering but most still use passive induction for power. Smart cards have more storage capacity than 125kHz cards, so they can encrypt their data in addition to storing it. Smart Cards are also used in contactless payment systems.
